My friend mako_lies expressed that an enormous pet peeve for her is flawed pacing in a story.  I'll admit that I'll agree with her: a story that moves too slowly or - even worse - too quickly is enough to make me quit reading.  The problem here is that good pacing is a writing skill that I believe evolves over time.  I think all writers are learning, and we ( Read more... )

There seems to be a very large majority who insist that writing fiction in the present tense is incorrect.  Period.  And I have been trying to determine if this statement is true.  (In other words, if there is actually a rule somewhere which states that 'All Fiction must be Written In Past tense.  So spake the Lord.'  Or whatever ( Read more... )
